Review Round 1

A dominant second half performance by OHA was the catalyst in their 49 point win over a wasteful St.Virgils. St.Virgils peppered the goals in the opening quarter but managed only two goals from nine shots while OHA capitalized on their limited chances to kick two goals. The second quarter was even with Saints holding a 4 point half time lead but the second half was all OHA led superbly by their onballers while Russell Yaxley and Nick Skeggs controlled the key defence posts and recruit Jamie Ford put in a strong first up performance with Saints best were Alex Ross, Zeb Graham and Brian Mahony.

University sprang a surprise in an upset 7 point win over the more fancied DOSA. University led at every change and held their nerve over a fast finishing DOSA in a tight contest. Mark Corbett, Will McAdam and Beau Adams stood out for University while Tom Males, Justin Veitch and Sam Peacock were best for DOSA.

Led by Declan McShane with 9 goals, Brad Tilbury and Lewis Franks Hutchins swept aside Channel to the tune of 88 points. The reigning premiers were too slick for the home team who were best served by Ryan Smith, Oliver Craven and Tom Kink.

Round 2

Preview Round 2

Channel will be hoping for a four quarter effort when they host DOSA. Channel were outplayed last week but it’s early days and, with a young outfit, coach Jarrod Collis will build them into a competitive unit led by Ryan Smith, Oliver Craven and Daniel Mulder. DOSA were narrow losers against University but will fight back through Justin Veitch, Sam Peacock and Kieran Reynolds.

A battle royal looms when Hutchins meet Richmond. Hutchins began their season brilliantly with their recruits blending in nicely and could produce a goal kicking centurian in Declan McShane with the opportunities he will receive but they face a new look Richmond with Alex Gilmore at the helm, a talented group of on ballers and forwards with a reliable defence to boost their chances.

OHA are home to University in an anticipated tight contest. The Ships were great in the second half last week with the wind certainly in their sails with key defenders Nick Skeggs and Russell Yaxley the springboard for numerous forward forays. University were impressive against DOSA and will be full of confidence for this clash with Allen Bielski, Joe Arnold, Beau Adams, Mark Corbett and Will McAdam leading the way.

St.Virgils bye.

Review Round 2

A rejuvenated OHA made it two wins from two games courtesy of a gutsy win over a plucky University. The biggest margin at the breaks was 13 points in a see sawing affair as the teams traded goals in the fight for ascendancy with OHA prevailing by 5 points. Calum Garvey was a tower of strength around the ground for OHA backed up by Jacob Martinovich with 5 goals and the ever reliable Nicks Skeggs while University were best served by Allen Bielski, Grant King and Mark Corbett.

An upset beckoned at Queenborough with Richmond putting the pressure on reigning premiers Hutchins for three quarters trailing by only 7 points at the break but Hutchins put the foot on the accelerator kicking 8 goals while keeping the Blues scoreless in winning by 61 points. Matthew Lister, Mitch Baker and Larry Owen were winners for Hutchins while Josh Woolley, Brad Tennick and Alex Gilmour stood out for Richmond.

A consistent four quarter performance by DOSA highlighted by a 10 goal haul from Daniel Newitt proved too much for Channel with the visitors winning by 68 points. Other good players for DOSA were Scott Beattie and Kim Harvey while Oliver Craven, Tom Kink and Daniel Mulder were best for Channel.

Round 3

Preview Round 3

St.Virgils face a tough task when they host a well drilled Hutchins outfit in the Old Scholars Football Association. Midfield and on ball battles will have a large bearing on the result but St.Virgils forwards need to be more accountable against a mean Hutchins defence while up the other end of the ground St.Virgils defence faces a stern test against the best forward setup in the competition.

Due to Anzac Day commemorations the Reserves game commences at 12 noon.

A vastly improved OHA outfit is home to DOSA in what should be a close affair. OHA have picked up a group of players who have added strengths across the ground in their best start since 2011 while DOSA steamrolled Channel last week but this will be harder but they are up to the challenge.

The Reserves game commences at 1pm.

Richmond entertain University in a night game and with both teams coming off losses a tight contest is predicted with key players in Richmond’s Alex Gilmour, Brad Tennick and Josh Woolley and University’s Mark Corbett, Allen Bielski and Trent Stevens leading the way to turn their form around.

The Reserves game commences at 4.15pm.

Channel bye.

Review Round 3

OHA came crashing back to earth courtesy of a 105 point belting by DOSA who set up their victory with an 8 goal to 1 first quarter and continued the trend throughout the game highlighted by an 11 goal third quarter and led brilliantly by Michael Fisher (6 goals), Justin Veitch and Todd Willing. OHA created plenty of chances led by Jamie Ford, Jason Britten and Andrew Riseley but poor finishing on goal not helping their cause.

Another dominant display by Hutchins saw them crush St.Virgils by 102 points. After an even start Hutchins put the metal to the pedal and led by best on ground Matthew Lister, a 9 goal haul from Nick Leitch and the creative Jamie Clark slammed on 8 goals to 1 in the second quarter and continued that dominance in the second half. St.Virgils put up a brave face but were outplayed with Zeb Graham, Brian Mahony and Alex Ross their best players.

Getting a good start in a night game is essential and Richmond achieved that in their 46 point win over University with Alex Cook, Jordan Dunn and Nick Mayne in form. University were unable to bridge the gap although Trent Stevens, Allen Bielski and Joe Arnold played well.

Round 4

Preview Round 4

The stage is set at Queenborough for a terrific clash between top of the table Hutchins and second placed DOSA in the Old Scholars. In a replay of last season’s Grand Final both teams will be eager to assert their advantage early in the roster. Hutchins cover well when missing key players none more so than when key forward Declan McShane was absent last week and Nick Leitch stepped up kicking 8 goals. DOSA have been impressive in their past two outings with Michael Fisher, Kieran Reynolds, Justin Veitch and Todd Willing leading from the front.

Breaking their duck is the incentive for both St.Virgils and Channel at New Town. Both teams have been inconsistent to date and need to play for four quarters although St.Virgils Alex Ross and Brian Mahony and Channel’s Oliver Craven and Tom Kink are playing steady football.

Straightening up in front of goals should be OHA’s priority in their clash with a rejuvenated Richmond. OHA appeared disinterested after quarter time last week but have a chance to redeem themselves while Richmond are coming along steadily and for one bad quarter in their first game they could well be two wins from two.

University have the bye.

 Review Round 4

Four rounds into the Old Scholars season Hutchins are setting the pace after crushing nearest rival DOSA by 65 points hitting the ground running led by Lewis Franks, Clinton Brown and Sam Heron. They shut out DOSA’s dangerous runners with the game in their keeping at half time and put the nail in the coffin with a 6 goals to nil third quarter. Jason McDonald, Michael Pace and Sam Peacock were best for DOSA.

Richmond withstood a late charge from OHA to win their clash by 2 points. Richmond led by as much as 33 points in the third quarter but the Ships kicked the last 5 goals of the game but fell short. Ben Cato, Matthew Hadfield and Jayden Baker were superb for Richmond while John Padman, Brodie Langford and Calum Garvey starred for OHA.

It took nearly twelve months but St.Virgils finally got to sing their club song in celebration of their 61 point win over Channel who began brilliantly but failed to take advantage of their chances.   St. Virgils slammed on 18 goals to 6 from quarter time led by Alex Ross, Daniel Meredith and Michael Collis while Paul Kupke, Oliver Craven and Jarrod Collis were best for Channel.

Round 5

Preview Round 5

Round five of the Old Scholars kicks off tonight with DOSA hosting Richmond at the TCA. DOSA are missing several key players with their return vital for success while midfielder Jason McDonald and defenders Scott Beattie and Kieran Reynolds are providing plenty of drive. Alex Gilmour has Richmond travelling smoothly and his nous around goal coupled with the run from defence of Ben Cato and Jayden Baker and midfield opportunists Dane Bailey, Kieran Rogers and Jordan Dunn makes them a dangerous opposition.

University will be out for redemption after two losses when they take on St.Virgils. Consistency is University’s Achilles heel but defenders Beau Adams, Trent Stevens with midfielders Allen Bielski and Joe Arnold are in form. St.Virgils are cock – a – hoop after winning last week and will be full of confidence led by Alex Ross, Jamie Tubb and Marcus Parker.

OHA will hope their final quarter finish continues when they meet Channel. OHA are capable of troubling any team on their day with midfielders Brodie Langford and Jamie Ford and busy defender John Padman in form while Channel are yet to open their account but onballers Oliver Craven, Paul Kupke and Jarrod Lawler are in form.

Hutchins have the bye.

Review Round 5

DOSA hit back with a vengeance holding off a sluggish Richmond at the TCA on Friday night. With Justin Veitch, Michael Pace and George Marshall dominating, DOSA jumped Richmond early holding a 29 point half time lead. They looked home after jumping out to a 33 point lead early in the final quarter but Richmond found an avenue forward in Jordan Dunn and his contribution along with help from Brad Tennick and Nick Mayne saw them kick 5 goals but they fell short by 16 points.

After looking out of the contest for three quarters St.Virgils staged a stunning final quarter comeback to pip University by 1 point. With midfielders Ryan Davis and Rob Pascoe running riot and Trent Stevens solid in defence, University set the pace early and looked comfortable leading at each change but St.Virgils hit back kicking 4 goals to 1 led by Alex Ross, Damian Bourke and Luke Polanowski.

OHA moved to equal second spot after defeating a plucky Channel. Little separated the teams up to the third quarter when OHA with Nick Skeggs, Jack Gleeson and Brodie Langford dominant held a 19 point lead which they increased to 34 points at the final siren. Jarrod Collis, Ash Humphrey and Oliver Craven were best for Channel.

Round 6

Preview Round 6

Richmond will be out to make amends for last week’s loss when they host a confident St.Virgils. The Blues failed to apply enough scoreboard pressure last week but if Dane Bailey, Kieren Rogers, Daniel Reimers and Jordan Dunn control the midfield and stoppages St.Virgils will be severely tested. They have managed two wins on the trot and will test the Blues led by Alex Ross, Damian Bourke and Luke Polanowski.

Last round losers University and Channel face off at University. The home team has fallen away since their round one victory and will hope to change the tide in this clash through Trent Stevens, Rob Pascoe and Ryan Davis. Channel have had their chances with errant kicking letting them down but Jarrod Collis, Ash Humphrey and Oliver Craven are dominating.

Hutchins should maintain their unbeaten record when they host the unpredictable OHA. The Lions have only been tested once (by Richmond) and are expected to have too many scoring options created by their hard working midfield runners and defenders. The Ships have started their season well but consistency is the key although Jamie Ford, Nick Skeggs and Brodie Langford are in top form.

DOSA have the bye.

Review Round 6

A four quarter performance was the recipe Richmond needed in sweeping St.Virgils aside in their 60 point victory. Richmond were matched early by Saints tenacity but as the game wore on the Blues asserted their authority with Alex Gilmour dominating with 8 goals and Jayden Baker, Kieran Rogers and Josh Woolley clinical in their efforts. St.Virgils couldn’t penetrate Richmond’s defence enough in the middle quarters paying the ultimate price but Michael Vanbeest, Brian Mahony and Dan Meredith played well.

University are eyeing fourth spot after downing Channel by 72 points. A 7 goal second quarter was the catalyst for University’s win in an even performance led by Jack McDonald, Baden Bryant and Sam Chivers. Channel began confidently but struggled as the game progressed but Oliver Craven, Tom Kink and Ryan Rinaldi battled hard.

Although tested by OHA for three quarters Hutchins flying start to their season continued with a 50 point win courtesy of a 7 goal final quarter. OHA were well in the game but their hard work was let down by poor finishing while Hutchins goals were shared around with Lewis Franks, Sam Heron and Clinton Brown their best players. Aaron Percy, Damien Paul and Harrison Allanby were best for OHA.

Round 7

Preview Round 7

While the gap between fourth and sixth spots in the Old Scholars is only one game St.Virgils need to find their winning formula if they are to play finals football which has eluded them since 2011when were runners up to Hutchins and Saturday’s clash with DOSA will be a solid test. St.Virgils haven’t toppled DOSA since round four in 2013 but if their onballers dominate and link up with their forwards they have a chance while DOSA has a talented line up but need to conquer their inconsistency.

Channel’s hopes of breaking their duck doesn’t get any easier when they host Richmond. Lapses in concentration seem to be Channel’s problem but they are a youthful combination and can only improve. Richmond began slowly but are building into a strong, competitive outfit boosted by the recruitment of goal scoring forwards and their prospects are very promising.

The clash between Hutchins Lions and University Rainbows should be an arm wrestle with the hosts in top form while University are unpredictable. Hutchins have strengths on every line with their hard work rewarded by their creative forwards while University have the talent to upset Hutchins but must apply pressure for the full game.

Review Round 7

A brilliant effort by University brought the previously unbeaten Hutchins back to earth with a thud winning by 67 points in the Old Scholars on Saturday. The first half was a battle for supremacy with the Rainbows holding a 3 goal advantage at half time but kicked 10 goals to Hutchins 2 in the second stanza led by the dominant Rob Pascoe and Allen Bielski while Brad Green and Ben Beams kicked 8 goals apiece. Hutchins were not allowed to produce their renowned playing style but Jamie Clark, Sam Heron and James McMahon stood tall.

Richmond were unable to produce their free flowing game until late in the game against a persistent Channel who finally succumbed to a 39 point loss with Channel’s defenders holding firm as the game ebbed and flowed. Brad Tennick, Rod Brumby and Nick Mayne were best for Richmond while Ash Humphrey, Jarrod Collis and Nathan Swards were best for Channel.

After a sluggish start the floodgates opened for DOSA allowing them to comfortably defeat St.Virgils by 61 points. DOSA found the right gear after quarter time led by Luke Manser, James Cerratelli and Fraser Shade while Damian Bourke, Brad Weston and Patrick Midson were best for Saints.

Round 8

Preview Round 8

Richmond hosts Hutchins in what looms as a blockbuster match in the Old Scholars Football Association. Hutchins will welcome back several players missing from last week’s loss with the midfield battle looming as pivotal to the result with Richmond’s Adam Daft, Brad Tennick and Kieran Rogers going head to head with the inform Lewis Franks, Mitch Baker and Matt Lister while up forward a shootout is expected with Richmond’s  Alex Gilmour, Rod Brumby and Jordan Dunn and Hutchins Declan McShane, Nick Leitch and Charlie White dangerous when the ball is in their area.

DOSA have to be at their best in their clash with an improved Channel whose only problem appears to be their inability to finish off games. DOSA looked good after half time last week led by midfielder Luke Manser and utility Michael Fisher while on-ballers Jarrod Collis and Ash Humphrey are strong leaders for Channel.

University will be out to prove last week’s win was no fluke when they host OHA. The addition of forward Brad Green has lifted University’s stocks no end while Ben Beams and Rob Pascoe are creating havoc. OHA won their round one clash and led by Aaron Percy and Damien Paul will fancy their chances.

St.Virgils bye.

Review Round 8

The match of the round lived up to the hype as Richmond put there foot down in the second half to run away winners over Hutchins by 23 points in the Old Scholars. Both sides  wasted opportunities but a 7 goal to 1 third quarter by Richmond proved the difference as Adam Daft, Steven Dick and Brad Tennick controlled the midfield courtesy of big men Leyth Gard and Troy Hitchens while Rod Brumby finished with 4 majors.

Hutchins Matt Lister was lively finishing with 2 goals along with the dangerous Lewis Franks who had to fight through a heavy tag while Brad Tilbury worked hard in defence and Larry Owen took some telling marks.

DOSA heaped more pain on Channel with a 121 point belting. With Todd Willing dominating the hit outs DOSA overwhelmed Channel with a 9 goal opening quarter with Ben Van Kraanen and Michael Fisher registering early goals and although scoring became difficult DOSA continued on as the game progressed. Jarrod Collis, Mark Jensen and Nick Lee were solid performers for Channel.

An Allen Bielski led University stormed home for a 39 point win over OHA but not before they were given an early scare by Ships who set sail with first quarter goals to Jamie Ford, Mitch McPherson and Chris Hevey but they were outpaced and overrun as the game wore on.

Round 9

Preview Round 9

After eight rounds, the results of most games have been predictable with the odd upset. The main interest is who will finish first and second with four teams certainly in the running. DOSA are starting to click as a unit but will have their work cut out when they host reigning premiers Hutchins whose fall from grace occurred in rounds seven and eight. This encounter will feature plenty of highlight packages especially the defences who come up against some form forwards.

OHA head to Richmond with the task of stopping a red hot Blues side who were impressive last week against Hutchins and coach Alex Gilmour will be hoping his players can continue their momentum with Ben Cato, Adam Daft and Jayden Baker in solid form. Boosted by the return of coach Brodie Langford OHA will be keen to bounce back and will take confidence from their narrow fourth round loss and Callum Garvey will need to play a major role in stopping the inform Leyth Gard in the ruck.

Channel have the opportunity to open their account when they host St.Virgils. Injuries have decimated both teams with Channel relying on their inspirational coach Jarrod Collis, Ash Humprey and Trent Riseley to lead from the front while the experience of Marcus Parker, Michael Collis and Alex Ross gives St.Virgils an edge and a close game is expected

University have the bye.

Review Round 9

Missing a third of their team through injury the prospect of victory appeared grim for Hutchins and that’s how it panned out with the rampant Roosters inflicting a103 point belting in the Old Scholars Football Association. With key backmen Jason McDonald and Ben Griffin stifling Hutchins forwards Declan McShane and Nick Leitch, DOSA were always in control with the game well and truly over after their 9 goal third quarter blitz.

Richmond flicked the switch in the second half running out 79 point winners against OHA. After an even first half Richmond’s 9 goals to 2 third quarter proved the difference with Jordan Dunn and Alex Gilmour kicking 5 and 4 goals respectively. They were supported by Tom Roberts who was damaging through the midfield and Nathan Woolley in defence. OHA’s Ben Langford and Jason Britten lead from the front while John Padman continued his strong season with another solid performance.

St.Virgils inflicted Channel’s eighth loss with a comfortable 63 point win. St.Virgils piled on the pressure from quarter time through onballers Luke Polanowski and Ben Parremore while Marcus Parker was a dangerous forward with 6 goals while Josh Beadle, Chris Elliott and Ash Humphrey were best for Channel.

Preview Round 10

Fourth plays second when University host Richmond , with the home side facing a tough task of stopping an inform Blues side who have won their past four games. University will fancy their chances after a week off  with the midfield battle the key with Allen Bielski, Joe Arnold and Grant King expected to go head to head with Adam Daft, Steven Dick and the returning Dane Bailey. University’s defenders have the daunting task of stopping Richmond’s forwards Alex Gilmour, Jordan Dunn and Rod Brumby while the Blues will need to keep Ben Beams under wraps but will miss Brad Green through a hamstring injury while Richmond’s backline with the inclusion of full back Nick Mayne strengthens an already tight defensive unit.

n the other two games an injury hit Hutchins will be desperate to return to the winners list against St.Virgils having lost their past three games and relegated to third spot on the premiership ladder while Saints have a great opportunity to cause an upset while at the TCA a pumped up DOSA should have too many options for OHA although history shows the Ships usually perform well in these contests.

Channel has the bye.

Review Round 10

OHA almost pulled off a surprise against DOSA who held on for a gutsy 9 point win in the Old Scholars football. OHA’s Brodie Langford snapped truly for the opening goal in an entertaining opening quarter but DOSA kicked away in the second quarter to jump to a four goal lead but OHA fought back to trail by 10 points at the main break. DOSA increased their advantage in the third quarter but the Ships would not give in clawing their way back but missed chances proved costly.

Hutchins ended their mini slump with a 6 goals to nil first quarter setting up their 35 point win over St.Virgils. With Larry Owen, Jamie Clark and Sam Wright back the Lions dominated early in an otherwise tight contest with Saints Luke Polanowski, Brad Weston and Brian Mahony contributing to their fightback.

Review Round 11

St.Virgils Old Scholars finals hopes were given a boost defeating rivals OHA in a thrilling game winning 9.7 (61) to 8.12 (60). On the back of their gutsy performance last week OHA looked confident but it was the Saints who jumped out of the blocks with Jay Nibbs and Jason Dawes hitting the scoreboard early. OHA struggled against strong defensive opposition when going forward but kicked into gear in the second quarter through Brendan Rogers and Brodie Langford goals and the hard working Ben Allenby and Nick Skeggs but Saints were able to maintain a handy buffer of four goals until a final quarter assault by OHA saw them whittle the lead down but Saints held on.

DOSA moved a game clear on top of the premiership ladder defeating a wasteful University 12.8 (80) to 7.14 (56). The game was in the balance throughout but University’s inability to kick goals proved costly while the accuracy of Roosters Ben Van Kraanen 5 goals and Dean Wall with 3 proving the difference.

They are not the class of 2014 but Hutchins jumped into second spot by sweeping aside Channel by 147 points with forwards Declan McShane 7 goals and Nick Leitch with 6 dominant.

Preview Round 12

The match of the round in the Old Scholars is at Richmond where the Blues take on ladder leaders DOSA in a contest vital to where both sides finish at seasons end. Richmond are fresh from a week off and unbeaten at home with mouth watering match ups tipped with DOSA's choice of who will line up on Blues match winners Alex Gilmour and Jordan Dunn and Josh Woolley tasked with containing DOSA’s elusive Michael Fisher to have huge impacts on the result.

Richmond welcome back star on baller Adam Daft while DOSA will sweat on the fitness of veteran Kim Harvey while the midfield battle looks quality with Adam Daft, Brad Tennick and Steven Dick opposed to DOSA's Justin Veitch, Nathan Street and Justin O Brien. Both sides have strong back six combinations with the Roosters Scott Beattie, Ben Griffin and Sam Peacock in solid form and the Blues will rely on Nick Mayne, Ben Machin and Alex Cook to defend strongly.

In other games a fired up St.Virgils play University who will be led Ben Beams for the season remainder and OHA welcome Channel.

 Hutchins have the bye.

Review Round 12

The match of the round lived up to the hype as Richmond ran out 9.18 (72) to 9.8 (62) winners against DOSA in the Old Scholars. The Blues were wasteful in front of goal in the first half while DOSA’s accuracy kept them in the game. The second half proved a real arm wrestle and the lead changed several times with one point separating the sides at three quarter time but it was the Blues who applied intense pressure on their counterparts with Jayden Baker’s stopping role on DOSA coach Justin O’Brian crucial while Tom Roberts and Adam Daft were solid through the middle and star forward Jordan Dunn kicked 3 goals. DOSA were best served by Jason MacDonald and George Marshall who were strong contributors down back while Michael Fisher won some telling midfield clearances.

St.Virgils coughed up a 10 point half time lead succumbing to a fast finishing University who won 17.12 (114) to 12.15 (87) led by Ben Beams with 6 goals while Saints Marcus Parker kicked 6 first half goals.

OHA proved too strong for Channel winning by 108 points led by Jason Britten with 7 goals and Brodie Langford with 6 while Channel’s Nick Lee and Chris Elliot 3 goals stood out.

Round 13

Preview Round 13

With nine rounds remaining in the Old Scholars the battle for finals spots are intensifying with three wins separating the first and sixth teams. Richmond is home to St. Virgils with Blues coach Alex Gilmour aware of what continued success brings and was “wrapped with his side’s effort last week being vital in setting them up for the second half of the season with his sides good form due to a more even spread across the board but expects a tough contest from St. Virgils and won't be taking them lightly”.

The injury riddled St. Virgils need to gain control over the midfield and feed key forward Marcus Parker with Richmond’s Josh Woolley expected to get first crack at him while Saints backs have the unenviable task of containing Alex Gilmour and Jordan Dunn.

A struggling Channel will hope coach Jarrod Collis returns to bolster their midfield against University who, according to coach Ben Beams believes “ his group can play deep in the finals series” but more consistency is required.

The OHA Hutchins game should be a close contest providing the Ships bring their A game while Hutchins short and long term injuries are affecting their structures but they still remain a force.

DOSA have the bye.

Review Round 13

University joined in the celebrations with their coach Ben Beams on his induction into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame scoring a 49 point win over Channel. Even without their coach’s presence it was evident the Rainbows meant business jumping out to a 41 point half time break led by forward Isaac Mathewson and on-baller Tom Arnold but Channel worked their way back into the game with Josh Beadle and Chris Elliot (4 goals) their best performers.

The upset of the season looked likely with St.Virgils leading Richmond by 11 points at the last break but Richmond dug deep in the final quarter to win by 9 points. Richmond are now a game clear on top of the ladder but coach Alex Gilmour admitted his side dodged a bullet saying "full credit to St Virgil’s as they played a really strong brand of football for four quarters but we dug deep and found a way to win”. Richmond full back Nick Mayne’s battle with Marcus Parker was a highlight while Adam Daft and Alex Cook had strong games while Brad Weston and Ben Parremore worked hard for Saints.

Rebounding defender Ben Langford played his 100th game for OHA but Hutchins had all the answers winning by 40 points by breaking the shackles after half time.

Round 14

Preview Round 14

The “F” word is University’s focus in their clash with Hutchins in the Old Scholars. In their round seven clash the Rainbows thrashed the Lions by 66 points with Ben Beams and Brad Green kicking eight goals apiece and will cause headaches for defenders James McMahon, Clinton Brown or Sam Heron although Ben Beams has been playing higher up the ground at stages and Lewis Franks could run with him. Hutchins playing stocks have been boosted by the return of several players while key forwards Nick Leitch and Declan McShane share 58 goals and defenders Jackson Cracknell and Mark Chivers will have first tilt at them.

Eight wins on the trot is the prize when Richmond host Channel with a consistent four quarter effort required but their  inaccuracy in front of goal is an issue and coach Alex Gilmour admits “ kicking 15.37 over the last two weeks is concerning which has been addressed this week as well as a strong response to our contested football”.

Channel will need to match the Blues in this area and strong games from Josh Beadle, Ash Humphrey and Andrew Matthews .

An anxious DOSA awaits St.Virgils who nearly stole the points last week. Inconsistency is plaguing DOSA and returning to their midseason form is their priority.

OHA have the bye.
